MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Tens of thousands of people in southern Wisconsin were left without power Friday night as severe storms swept through the state, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and hail, as well as a wave of tornado warnings. According to the latest update from Alliant Energy, Columbia County was the hardest hit, with nearly 2,060 customers still without electricity Saturday afternoon.
Sauk County reported nearly 1,800 customers without power Saturday afternoon, with more than 13,000 of its customers in Sauk Co. alone affected in the wake of the storm. In Adams Co., more than two-thirds of the county's 3,479 customers reported outages, but by 9 a.m. Saturday, just over five dozen were still affected.
MG&E reported over 12,000 outages in the Madison-area, and as of 9 a.m. Saturday morning, approximately 2,278 customers were still without power. By 4:40 p.m., that number dropped to 429 customers.
In southeast Wisconsin, We Energies reported on its outage map around 9 a.m. Saturday that more than 62,000 customers in the region were affected, with the Fort Atkinson area having more than 8,400 customers affected. By 4:40 p.m., that number dropped to approximately 36,000 customers.
